Tips to Save Money Shopping Online
We look at ways on how you can save money when shopping online to get your next purchase at the best price.
Live Chat Deal
We’ve all been there where we’re quick to dismiss that chat pop-up message. However, once you’ve established you’re speaking to an actual person and not a chatbot, it might be worth to engage in a conversation with them. Once the conversation is flowing mixed with a bit of haggling you may be well on your way to be offered a discount to seal that deal.
Price Match
John Lewis are probably best known for this and many other retailers have also started to offer a price match service with some going as far as even matching discount code prices. Once you’ve found the cheapest price but not too sure about the retailer it’s worth to approach another retailer you’ve perhaps dealt with in the past to see whether they can match or beat the price. Even better they may sweeten the deal with free delivery or guarantees for peace of mind.
Discount Code Stacking
If you’re lucky enough to find more than one discount code for a retailer, why not push your luck further and try to use more than one during the checkout process. We’re used to seeing the cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or discount but some retailers can be quite generous sometimes. We also suggest being savvy with the order that you apply your discounts as different combinations could save you more.
Cashback
Not only is it nice to get a discount off your order with a voucher code but you can also get money back when you shop online with cashback sites such as TopCashBack. Once signed up, clicking through from a cashback site to a retailer will earn you a percentage of money back on your purchase. Be sure to only use the discount codes approved by the cashback sites if any available as using from elsewhere may result in your cashback being declined.
Abandon Your Basket
No guarantees on this one but if you’re not in a hurry to receive your online order, once at the checkout stage just leave your basket. As long as your email address was entered somewhere along the way you may receive a follow up email reminding you of your basket with some sort of enticement to complete your order. With that being said, even before you attempt to leave the site you may be presented with a pop-up offering you a one-off discount there and then.
Newsletter Sign Up
After signing up to a retailers newsletter be sure to check your inbox for any welcome rewards or gifts. At the time of writing this Ernest Jones and Tessuti offer 10% off your first order whilst others may offer a free gift. You can always unsubscribe from these newsletters after you’ve redeemed your perk but sometimes it’s worth to stay on that mailing list to be the first to know about the latest sales and promotions.
Social Following
Already have a following of your own on a social media channel? Then be sure to follow your favourite brands on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. You’ll be the first to know of any flash sales and the latest promotions but better still social-only deals. As always though, be careful who you share your details with and make sure who you are following are the real deal.
Go Private or Incognito
As we all know, websites love to track our online behaviour and this data can sometimes be used against us to change prices. So, the next time you keep checking on that holiday or gift for someone, clear your cookies and log out of any user account you may have or simply open a new private or incognito tab. Further still you may even find that depending which device you are browsing on you’ll be offered different prices and deals.
